The new addition to Lidl’s drinks section is part of the retailer’s gin festival which has returned this year with 14 gin products from British distilleries, including non-alcoholic and pre-mixed options. The brand is named after George Chinnery, the English painter, who began his career in Dublin, before travelling to China. The bottle is inspired by these two parts of his career – Georgian Dublin and Imperial China. Over the years I’ve tried my hand at many creative things, from woodwork to fashion, and nothing really caught my attention for long enough. I’ve always enjoyed drinking gin, and it’s impossible not to have noticed the explosion of gin recently. Since the beginning we’ve looked to consult with the best people to create the best possible spirits from our small craft distillery.
Other gins in the collection include a fragrant pineapple and raspberry gin as well as the tea-infused Brentingby Gin Rooibos and Baobab Gin. The latter gin is made by the Brentingby distillery near Melton Mowbray (of the famous pies) which uses wind turbines to power the production lines more sustainably. This method, time-consuming and demanding precision, results in a gin that is both smooth and complex.
Working with specialist spirits branding agency, Stranger & Stranger, the ‘Social Distillery’ has created something which is the envy of many. They wanted to produce something which depicts the truly stunning scenery found on the island – and what a job they’ve done! Brentingby Gin is a delightful dance of botanicals. While juniper, as is customary with gins, plays a dominant role, the brand goes a step further, incorporating a range of botanicals that lend it its unique profile. From the citrusy notes of coriander and orange to the slightly spiced touch of birch bark, Brentingby Gin is an exploration of flavours, making it both versatile and distinct.
