About this deal

Cut rounded corners at the ends of each strip if they don’t already have them. The rounded corners are less likely to get snagged against clothing; and helps to keep the tape on longer. A similar study showed kinesiology tape also increased the space in the shoulder joint. Even though the increase in space is slight, it helps reduce the chance of joint irritation. May change signals on pain pathways

It’s not a fashion statement. It’s elastic therapeutic tape, a special type of stretchy, flexible athletic tape often used to help treat muscle and joint pain. But does it work? Hadamus A, Grabowicz M, Wąsowski P, Mosiołek A, Boguszewski D, Białoszewski D. AssessmenPhysical therapists sometimes use kinesiology taping as one part of an overall treatment plan for people who’ve been injured. The American Physical Therapy Association reports that kinesiology taping is most effective when it’s used in conjunction with other treatments like manual therapy. Study says therapeutic taping no better than other approaches to treat chronic musculoskeletal pain, disability. Tape can be applied in an X, Y, I, or fan pattern, depending on your goals. You may also need both stabilization and decompression strips.

Most respondents reported using the KT standard uncut roll (2in/5cm x16.4ft/5m) (67%, n=724), while the large standard uncut roll (36%, n=389), standard pre-cut strips (15% n=168), and the wide uncut roll (11%, n=114) were also commonly used by clinicians ( Table 3). Only a small portion of respondents reported using the pre-cut fan tape (9%, n=96), pre-cut tape for the lower body (4%, n=43), or pre-cut tape for the upper body (3% n =38); most of the respondents (83%, n=902) reported not using any of the specialty pre-cut tape options available ( Table 3). Kinesiology tape (known as KT tape) is an ultra-flexible, adhesive tape applied on the skin to support your tendons, joints, and/or muscles, and was created in the early 1970s to mimic the elasticity of human skin, says Katherine Campbell, DPT, CPT, a physical therapist and certified personal trainer at Blue Iron Physio. “KT tape was created to move with your body and ‘lift up’ [muscles, tendons, and joints], while also being able to withstand physical activity,” she adds.

Don’t expect KT tape to solve any ongoing pain or other issues. Research has yet to show any lasting benefit from using it. Cunha AB, Lima-Alvarez CD, Rocha ACP, Tudella E.
