About this deal
It's fair to say that there's nothing wrong with this and more people are starting to understand this. Unfortunately, in the SX500 IS Canon used a 16-megapixel CCD sensor and an old Digic 4 image processor instead of one of its better HS CMOS sensors and a newer, more powerful Digic 5 processor.
Neither is particularly fast, although given the engineering constraints incurred by cramming such a large focal range into such a small optic, this isn’t wholly unexpected. This is a selection of sample images from the Canon PowerShot SX500 IS camera, which were all taken using the 16 megapixel Superfine JPEG setting. The SX500’s 30x optical zoom offers the 35mm focal range equivalent of between 24-720mm, which is plenty wide enough to take large group shots at the wideangle end or to fill the frame with faraway objects at the telephoto end.In trying to make it as small as possible, yet maintain the 30x optical zoom, Canon has had to make a few compromises, notedly not offering full 1080p video capture, doing away with a viewfinder and scaling back on-camera controls. The Canon PowerShot SX500 IS is a super-zoom bridge type camera that sports a 30x, 24mm wide-angle zoom, lens, 16 megapixel resolution, 3 inch LCD screen, 720p movies, full manual controls and a Digic 4 processor. The rest of the buttons are firm to press while the menu wheel on the back is pleasantly spirited as it zooms through modes.
A pop up flash sits on top of the lens barrel and the flash options on the back of the Canon PowerShot SX500 IS won't come on until the flash has been lifted. He also covers almost anything connected to a PC, including keyboards, mice, USB-C docks and PC gaming accessories. The PowerShot SX500 IS provides an unbeatable combination of massive zoom range in a compact lightweight body that, for now at least, is unmatched by anyone else. Canon has deservedly forged a good reputation for consistent image quality with its PowerShot range and the SX500 is no exception to this.
