About this deal
The only thing you do know is that one of the game's scenarios will eventually begin, dictated by the rooms and items you've drawn. This dungeon-crawling epic taps into all that with branching storylines more commonly seen in the best tabletop RPGs, and it makes skilful use of 'Legacy' mechanics where the consequences of your actions carry across from one session to the next.

You want a complex strategy game: Although this game has more than enough strategic back and forth, it's not the crunchiest tactical experience on offer. You want something simple: Despite being a lot more accessible than standard Gloomhaven (it was pitched as an easier way into the game), Jaws of the Lion is still a lot denser than a lot of board games. There is a lot going on here, but the deck building aspects of the game really drive the collection aspects. It’s half card game, half dodgeball, except that instead of balls you have to dodge adorable plushy burritos. The original version allows for up to four players, but the expansion pack that we have increases the number of players to six.

Player elimination games, on the other hand, are filled with conflict and competition, with the aim being to win or eliminate other players from the game.
The answer to this sort of question comes down to personal preference, but we'd say board games like Gloomhaven (which often feature customizable characters or branching storylines that react to your choices) would come up trumps. As each card is flipped, you check to see if you have any state cards in your hand that match what is stated on the card.
