Her bestselling first non-fiction book, Blue Planet II, has been translated into several languages around the world. In an interview with Radio Times, Attenborough explains that "data from satellites collected over the last 40 years show a drop of 30% in the area of the Arctic sea ice at the end of each summer. I was a huge fan of the original series, but a decade has passed since it aired and we now have a far greater understanding of our frozen habitats.
In the breeding season, male hooded seals expand their left nasal passages into bright red balloons and wave them around to win mates.
The episode follows about the climate change, global warming, the melting of the ice caps and their consequences. From polar bears to penguins, and from snow monkeys to Siberian tigers, each species must overcome a unique set of challenges to endure its extreme environment. At the BAFTA Television Awards, Frozen Planet was nominated for Best Specialist Factual and the YouTube Audience Award, but lost in both categories.
