Pentax ME Super 35mm SLR Camera Package
About this deal
The ME Super’s feature set is aimed at the mid-level amateur: It has an exposure compensation dial, clockwork self-timer, shutter-cocked indicator, memo holder for your film box lid, and threaded shutter button for a cable release, but there’s no depth-of-field preview or mirror lock-up.
If you want to locate one you might need to check and track what’s available through weeks or months. Compared to similarly specced machines of its era, the Pentax is about the best built entry-level SLR we’ve encountered.
All this exposure fiddling taken into account, you’ll likely never need it, since the ME is so extremely well-sorted in the metering department. I think it’s the best looking wide open of the whole test and although things get hexagonal rather quickly, the entire series of shots l Loads film in a normal manor, but don’t set in ‘auto’ mode in low light as it will set a low shutter speed and you’ll have to wait for a while between cocking.
I've had to renew the seals and clean the ground glass, which had remains of the old seals stuck to it.I am pretty sure you could pass off the 55mm shot as a 50mm lens and no one would notice without something to compare it to.
Sporting a small and compact body, aperture priority and manual functions and housing some incredible lenses, the ME Super is perhaps only let down by its common electrical faults. However, I shot a test roll and the camera behaved correctly, all 38 exposures came out as they should, I used the A 50mm f1.The camera is still incredibly responsive after all this time, manually changing between aperture values provides instantaneous changes to the auto determined shutter speed, and in manual mode, switching between shutter speeds is lighting fast. I would have given the Super A a perfect 10 if it had MLU and exposure lock, but instead I give it a 9.
